EXPERIMENTAL ARCHAEOLOGY
In conjunction with the Associazione Geoarcheologica di Chianciano Terme, museum staff undertake experimental activities with children mainly from primary schools. This predominantly involves excavation and restoration projects. A simulated dig takes place in specially-designed sandboxes in the museum piazzale or in the summer in excavation areas where actual digs take place: various modern ceramic pots are buried and then ruptured. Children then start the discovery process under supervision of the museum staff. Another experimental activity is restoration: the fragments of recovered modern pots are cleaned, assembled and then glued by children with the assistance of one of our restorers (payment required).
